27 Global Safety Rules

  1. All accidents/incidents must be reported to your supervisor/Bunge representative immediately.

  2. All unsafe conditions and acts shall be reported to your supervisor/Bunge representative immediately.

  3. All accidents/incidents must be fully investigated to determine the underlying causes and contributing factors thereto. Corrective actions must be implemented to prevent recurrence of similar incidents. The results of the investigation will be shared within the facility and with other facilities that have the potential for similar accidents/incidents.

  4. Maintain good order and housekeeping at all times:

    1. All exits, aisles and stairs must be kept free from obstructions.
    2. Access to fire extinguishers, hoses, valves, and hydrants must be kept free from obstructions.
    3. Tools, electrical cords, and hoses must be stored properly when not in use.
  5. Smoking is permitted in designated areas only.

  6. No one shall work while ability or alertness is impaired due to fatigue, illness, alcohol or drugs, including prescription and non-prescription drugs.

  7. Personal protective equipment shall be properly used when required according to local procedures, and shall be maintained in good condition.

  8. A site specific Emergency Action Plan will be in place, and all personnel shall be aware and understand the plan.

  9. Use designated walkways such as stairs, ladders, roads or other access ways to enter and exit all work locations.

  10. Powered vehicles, including forklifts, earthmoving equipment, cranes, and personal lifts shall be operated only by trained and authorized personnel.

  11. All personnel will be informed of hazards associated with chemicals or supplies used in their work (e.g., paint, solvent, glues, etc.).

  12. All personnel shall be aware of hazards associated with chemicals or supplies used in Bunge processes at the location to which they may be exposed (e.g., hexane, ammonia, chlorine, grain dust, etc.).

  13. A system for Hot Work Permits and/or designated areas shall be in use for all welding, cutting, burning, grinding or other spark or fire producing operations.

  14. A system for Lock Out and Tag of all hazardous energy sources shall be employed prior to any maintenance, service, repair, cleaning, or adjusting of any equipment with the potential for personnel exposure to unexpected startup or accidental release of hazardous energy, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, gravitational, thermal, radiation or chemical energy sources.

  15. A system for Confined Space Entry authorization shall be employed for any space (silos, tanks, vault, etc.) that contains, or potentially contains, an engulfment hazard, hazardous atmosphere, or any other hazard to health.

  16. All personnel exposed to a fall hazard of greater than 2 meters shall be protected by handrails, guarding or appropriate fall protection equipment.

  17. All scaffolding shall be constructed under the supervision of a skilled individual.

  18. All work involving excavation shall be approved by a Bunge Supervisor prior to a commencement to ensure that underground hazards (pipelines, electrical lines, etc.) and potential for undermining of surrounding structures are avoided.

  19. Any excavation or trench deeper than 1.5 meters shall be properly shored or sloped to prevent the potential for entrapment and provided with safe means of egress.

  20. All cranes, hoists, slings, chains and other lifting devices shall be inspected prior to use and verified to be in adequate condition. Proper rigging practices must be used.

  21. Only properly trained and qualified personnel shall perform electrical tasks.

  22. All containers and vessels with flammable liquids (e.g., hexane, acetone, etc.) shall be bonded and grounded during transfer operations.

  23. All necessary machine guarding shall be in place prior to operation of any equipment.

  24. All portable tools and associated safety devices must be maintained in good condition and immediately repaired or replaced if damaged.

  25.  Use of power, water or steam facilities, such as CCM, power switches, steam connections, must be from approved locations and appropriately installed to protect personnel from exposure to hazardous energy.

  26. Use of fire hydrants and hoses for cleaning or any other use other than firefighting must be approved by internal Management.

  27. Appropriate warning signs, barricades, or barriers must be used for all potentially hazardous conditions (e.g., open pits, missing handrail, chemical spill, rail or traffic movement, etc.).
